Industrial Visit for II & III year Civil Engineering to OMR, on 06 & 07 Sep 2019
|
As a part of the curriculum, the Department of Civil Engineering has arranged an Industrial Visit for II
& III year Civil Engineering students. After getting the proper permission from authorities of DCE and
House of Hiranandani, an Industrial Visit to the OMR branch was organized on 6th and 7th of September
2019.
Aim of The Field Visit
- To enhance the knowledge of the students on the curriculum part of the subject Design of RC Elements, Structural Analysis, Construction Materials and its practical applications.
- To impart knowledge on Foundation Engineering
- To keep an interaction between institution and industry.
We were warmly welcomed by Mr. Kalidoss, Vice- President. Then, Mr. Chidambaram, Design Engineer, gave a
power point presentation of the process involved in execution of high rise buildings from foundation to
exterior plastering work. It was very useful for the students to understand the technical terms. By
11.30 am, we moved on field visit of construction of high rise buildings guided by Mr. Thangapandy,
Quality Control Engineer.
The following concepts were explained practically in the field:
- Formwork for the components
- Reinforcement detailing
- Shear wall design to resist lateral loads
- Staircase design
- Aluminium Formwork
Aluminium Formwork System provides Aluminium Formwork for RCC load bearing or RCC framed multi-storied
buildings and enables the walls and slabs to be poured in the same operation. This increase efficiency
and also produces an extraordinarily strong structure with excellent concrete finish. Due to the fine
tolerance achieved in the machined metal formwork components, consistent concrete shapes and finishes
are obtained floor after floor. This allows plumbing and electrical fittings to be prefabricated with
the certain knowledge that there will be an exact fit when assembled.
The industrial visit was a great source of practical knowledge to the students in the field of modern
construction technology. Finally, the session ended with a group photo.
